1. The Academy offers care basically through infancy but characters who are too young will likely not get to go on all the more dangerous missions. Official classes start with Pre-K.

2. Canon backstory of any length isn't especially important so long as there's enough to define the character by. We're more interested in available personality since it's all going to be shifted to an AU anyway.
